Inventory · Odoo glossary
Inventory
Inventory means the goods and materials a business holds, and the records used to manage them.
Definition
In general ERP practice
Inventory means the goods and materials a business holds, and the records used to manage them.
In Odoo
Odoo Inventory records receipts, storage movements, deliveries and stock counts. It connects these movements to Purchase, Sales and Manufacturing, so a transaction can create the next warehouse operation.
A practical example
A supplier delivers 20 boxes. Receiving them adds stock; moving them to a shelf changes where they are stored; shipping three boxes reduces the stock held by the company.
How to use the concept
Stock records
Products, units of measure, quantities and storage positions give staff a shared record instead of relying on memory.
Operational control
Reservations allocate stock to demand. Routes organise the steps for receiving, replenishing and shipping.
Traceability and value
Lots, serial numbers and valuation provide different views of stock. Accounting behaviour depends on the Odoo version and configuration.
Official Odoo documentation
The Odoo-specific explanation above is based on the documentation for Odoo 19. Features and workflows can differ in other versions.
