Warehouse

A warehouse is a physical site where a business receives, stores and dispatches goods. One company can operate several warehouses.

Definition

In general ERP practice

A warehouse is a physical site where a business receives, stores and dispatches goods. One company can operate several warehouses.

In Odoo

An Odoo warehouse represents a site with an address and its own operational structure, including receiving and delivery arrangements. It contains locations. A shelf, damaged-goods area or packing zone normally belongs in the location structure rather than becoming another warehouse.

A practical example

A company operates sites in Warsaw and Berlin. Each can be a warehouse. Within Warsaw, receiving, main storage, packing and dispatch are separate locations.

How to use the concept

  1. Site-level organisation

Use warehouses for sites whose operations and supply flows need separate management.

  2. Locations inside a site

Zones, racks, shelves and bins describe where goods are held inside the warehouse.

  3. Transfers between sites

An inter-warehouse transfer records stock leaving one site and arriving at another. Transit locations can represent goods travelling between them.
