Point of Sale (POS)

Point of sale is the checkout process and supporting system used to record a sale and its payment when a customer purchases goods or services.

Definition

In general ERP practice

Point of sale is the checkout process and supporting system used to record a sale and its payment when a customer purchases goods or services.

A POS workflow can include product selection, prices, discounts, receipts and payment methods. Its requirements differ from a quotation or a wholesale sales-order workflow.

In Odoo

Odoo Point of Sale provides a browser-based checkout application for shops and restaurants. Product, stock, payment and hardware requirements should be checked for the intended operating setup.

Practical example

A retail sale can reduce available stock and record a payment in the same customer interaction. Returns, cash reconciliation and payment-provider settlement still need defined procedures.
