ERP Deployment · Odoo glossary
On-Premise ERP
On-premise ERP runs on infrastructure operated for the organization rather than being consumed solely as a provider-managed application service.
Definition
In general ERP practice
On-premise ERP runs on infrastructure operated for the organization rather than being consumed solely as a provider-managed application service.
The organization takes responsibility for the operating environment, directly or through a contracted operator. On-premise describes deployment; legacy describes a system whose age, support or constraints affect its suitability. The two are not synonyms.
In Odoo
Odoo supports on-premise deployment as well as hosted options. Agree responsibility for server operation, backups, security, custom modules and upgrades when selecting the environment.
Practical example
A current ERP release can run on a company server, while an outdated application can run in a remote data center. Assess maintenance and deployment as separate decisions.
