Net Mass
Net mass is the weight of goods excluding their packaging, normally expressed in kilograms for trade statistics.
Definition
In general ERP practice
Net mass is the weight of goods excluding their packaging, normally expressed in kilograms for trade statistics.
Gross weight includes packaging; net mass excludes it. Some commodity codes also require a supplementary quantity, such as litres, pieces or square metres.
In Odoo
For Intrastat, check that the relevant Odoo weight information represents the goods without packaging. Do not assume a shipping weight can be reused without review.
Calculating a shipment’s net mass
For identical goods with a reliable unit mass, multiply quantity by net mass per unit. Variable-weight goods need their actual measurement and suitable handling in the reporting workflow.
Illustrative example
One bracket weighs 2 kg without packaging. A shipment of 100 brackets has a net mass of 200 kg; 40 brackets have a net mass of 80 kg. Pallets and boxes are excluded.
