Commodity Code
A commodity code classifies goods for trade and statistical reporting; Intrastat uses eight-digit Combined Nomenclature (CN) codes.
Definition
In general ERP practice
A commodity code classifies goods for trade and statistical reporting; Intrastat uses eight-digit Combined Nomenclature (CN) codes.
A commodity code describes the category of goods. It is different from an internal SKU, barcode or supplier product reference. The CN is updated annually.
In Odoo
In Odoo, the product’s Commodity Code supports Intrastat classification. Check the code against the actual goods and applicable year before using the product in reporting.
Choosing a classification
Use the material, function and other relevant characteristics of the goods. A dropdown displaying possible codes is not evidence that the correct code has been selected. Seek classification advice when the product is ambiguous.
Illustrative example
A mounting bracket needs a code matching its characteristics. Do not copy the code from an unrelated product or assume a generic product name gives enough information.
