Progress Payment
A progress payment is a partial payment for an agreed stage or measured portion of work, rather than a single payment after the entire project is complete.
Definition
In general ERP practice
A progress payment is a partial payment for an agreed stage or measured portion of work, rather than a single payment after the entire project is complete.
In Odoo
Odoo supports invoicing workflows such as down payments and project milestones. A construction payment application, certification step or retention calculation may require additional configuration or development; it is not the same as splitting one invoice into installments.
Distinguish the stages
Work completed
The contractor records the work performed and its supporting evidence.
Application and approval
The parties review the amount under the agreed contract process.
Invoice and receipt
The invoice records the obligation; the receipt records money actually received.
Illustrative example
A contractor requests payment for an agreed completed stage. The approved amount, invoice amount and money received are tracked separately. The contract determines the dates and any deductions; completion alone does not establish that cash has arrived.
Official Odoo documentation
The Odoo-specific explanation above is based on the documentation for Odoo 19. Features and workflows can differ in other versions.
