Monolithic Architecture

A monolithic architecture packages an application as one deployable unit rather than as independently deployed services.

Definition

In general ERP practice

A monolithic architecture packages an application as one deployable unit rather than as independently deployed services.

A monolith can have clear internal module boundaries. Tight coupling is a design problem to assess, not an inevitable property of every monolith; splitting into services also introduces operational and integration work.

In Odoo

Do not infer the right Odoo extension or integration design from the word monolith alone. Evaluate module boundaries, shared data, release dependencies and the business scenarios affected by a proposed separation.

What to check in a modernization project

  1. Module boundaries

Can a change be isolated and tested without unrelated behavior changing?

  2. Deployment coupling

Which capabilities must be released together?

  3. Distributed cost

Include failure handling, interface ownership and reconciliation before splitting services.
