Data Migration
Data migration transfers required information from a source system to a target, including the mapping, transformation and validation needed to make it usable.
Definition
In general ERP practice
Data migration transfers required information from a source system to a target, including the mapping, transformation and validation needed to make it usable.
Moving files is only one step. A migration decision includes master records, balances, open transactions, required history and what will remain in a read-only archive. Record counts alone do not prove that relationships and balances are correct.
In Odoo
When another system is replaced with Odoo, agree the target objects, identifiers, import sequence and validation rules. File import is one possible mechanism; it is not by itself a complete migration plan or a substitute for testing business outcomes.
What to check in a modernization project
Scope
Separate required operational data from archived history.
Mapping
Define identifiers, relationships and transformation rules.
Reconciliation
Agree completeness checks, balances and representative records before launch.
