Inventory and Warehousing · Odoo glossary
First In, First Out (FIFO)
FIFO means using the oldest eligible units or cost layers first.
Definition
In general ERP practice
FIFO means using the oldest eligible units or cost layers first. In ERP, distinguish physical removal order from inventory costing: selecting the oldest stock and assigning its cost are related concepts but different settings.
In Odoo
Odoo provides FIFO costing and a separate FIFO removal strategy. Costing affects stock valuation, while removal rules select stock for picking; configuring one does not automatically establish the other.
Official Odoo documentation
The Odoo-specific explanation above is based on the documentation for Odoo 19. Features and workflows can differ in other versions.
