Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI)
An arrangement in which a supplier monitors agreed inventory information and manages replenishment for the customer.

In Odoo
In an Odoo implementation, VMI determines who manages replenishment; consignment determines ownership. They can coexist but are not interchangeable concepts.
